LEBANON, Tenn. - - The Cumberland men's tennis team dropped a midweek match to the No. 24 ranked Arizona Christian Firestorm.

The Firestorm jumped on the Phoenix and took two out of three doubles matches from the home side, winning on courts one and three.

Arne Sohmer and Arthur Fernandes won the lone doubles matches on court two, 7-6, though the pairings of Carlos Morillas and Matheus Guarnieri and Mateus Mori and Mohamed Bouhlel couldn't find a way past. The pairing of Morillas and Fernandes lost 6-1, while Mori and Bouhlel fell 6-0.

In singles play the Phoenix began to work their way back into the match, though it was always going to be a hard climb back after losing the doubles point. Mohamed Bouhlel won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, while Matheus Guarnieri had to battle it out in a third set tiebreaker.

The Brazilian lost his first set 6-7 (4-7), but rallied back to win the second set 6-1, then in his final tiebreak of the day he came out on top, 16-14. His doubles teammate, Carlos Morillas, fought hard at the top singles spot but fell 6-4, 6-2.

Arthur Fernandes couldn't find his footing at the second spot, falling 6-0, 6-3. Mateu Moris also fought hard but could not get past the Firestorm, dropping 6-1, 6-4, while Arne Sohmer had to withdraw early on, trailing 3-0.

Cumberland will battle a division one opponent, Tennessee Tech on Sunday, March 8th.
