LEBANON, Tenn. - - Cumberland dropped a tough 6-1 decision to Tennessee Tech on Tuesday afternoon, falling to 1-1 on the season.

The Phoenix struggled to gain momentum early, as Tennessee Tech swept through doubles play to take the opening point. Carlos Morillas and Mateus Mori retired down 3-0 in their match at No. 1, while Matheus Guarnieri and Mohamed Bouhlel fought but couldn't find a way past Tech on court three, falling 6-2.

Arthur Fernandes and Arne Sohmer were unable to complete their match as it came to a close with the Phoenix trailing 5-1.

In singles action, Arthur Fernandes provided the lone bright spot for Cumberland. Battling at the No. 2 position, Fernandes bounced back after dropping the first set to earn a strong match tiebreak victory, winning 2-6, 6-1, 10-7.

Tennessee Tech controlled the remaining singles courts, winning in straight sets at five positions to seal the team victory. Carlos Morillas retired on court one, while Matheus Guarnieri fell 6-0, 6-1.

Mohamed Bouhlel had a competitive match on court four but again was stymied, falling 6-1, 6-1. Mateus Mori and Magnus Johansen both dropped their match on courts five and six, losing 6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-1, respectively.

Cumberland will look to regroup and bounce back quickly as they take on Lipscomb University tomorrow afternoon at 12:30.
