Phoenix Split DH With No. 11 Ranked Blue Raiders

LEBANON, Tenn. - - Cumberland split their doubleheader this afternoon with Lindsey Wilson, taking game two of the series before dropping the finale against the strong Blue Raider squad.

In the opener, the Phoenix delivered one of their best pitching performances of the season, knocking off the No. 11 ranked Lindsey Wilson team, 2-1, behind a dominant outing from Avery Rauscher. Cumberland struck first in the third inning when Elly Castle ripped an RBI single and Natalie Rector followed with a run-scoring double to put the Phoenix ahead 2-0.

Rauscher made that lead stand the rest of the way, tossing a complete game three-hitter with four strikeouts. Lindsey Wilson threatened by scoring one in the seventh, but Cumberland held on to secure the upset win.

In game three, Lindsey Wilson responded in the first inning and never let Cumberland settle in, claiming a 5-0 victory. The Blue Raiders plated three runs in the opening inning and added insurance late, including a two-run homer from Kaiden Rodgers in the seventh.

Madison Croxford battled through all seven innings in the circle, while the Phoenix offense managed four hits. Elly Castle continued her strong day at the plate with two more hits, and Karley Daughrity and Sara Brogdon each added base knocks, but Cumberland could not break through against Hallie Roberts, who threw a complete-game shutout.

With the split, Cumberland took their third win off a ranked opponent this week and will be back in action on Wednesday against Oakwood.
