Tigers Sweep Phoenix on Day One of Weekend Series

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - - Cumberland dropped both games of Friday's road doubleheader at Campbellsville, falling 5-0 in game one before coming up just short in a 2-1 battle in game two.

In the opener, Campbellsville used a run in the first, two more in the second, and added insurance in the fifth and sixth innings to secure the win. Cumberland collected four hits in the contest, with Hailey Donato, Elly Castle, Sara Brogdon, and Kennedy Scott each recording one. Emma Markham went the distance for Campbellsville, striking out seven in the shutout effort.

Avery Rauscher took the loss after working five innings, while Katlyn Conner pitched the final frame in relief.

Game two was a tightly contested pitcher's duel, like the Phoenix have seemed to find themselves in a number of times this year. Campbellsville struck first in the opening inning, but Cumberland answered in the fourth when Sara Brogdon singled and later scored on an RBI double from Karsyn France to tie the game at 1-1.

The Tigers regained the lead in the fifth on an RBI single from Jessie Daniels, and that proved to be the difference. Cumberland threatened late, but Campbellsville reliever Ellie Coley closed out the final three innings to earn the win.

Madison Croxford was strong in the circle for Cumberland, allowing just two runs over six innings. Kennedy Scott paced the offense with two hits, while Donato, Castle, Brogdon, and France also added hits in the narrow loss.

Cumberland will play one more game in the season series, taking on the Tigers bright at early tomorrow morning at 9 AM CT.
