Campbellsville Completes Sweep of Cumberland with 5-1 Win

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.--Campbellsville completed the Mid-South Conference series sweep of Cumberland on Saturday morning, defeating the Phoenix 5-1 in the series finale.

Cumberland falls to 15-22 on the season, while Campbellsville improves to 27-13 after limiting the Phoenix to one run on five hits across seven innings.

Abby Chappell led Cumberland at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance, scoring the lone run, while Sara Brogdon drove in the only RBI with a double. Kennedy Scott and Elly Castle each added a hit as part of Cumberland's five-hit effort.

In the circle, Avery Rauscher (8-9) took the loss, allowing five runs on four hits in three innings of work. Madison Croxford entered in relief, tossing three scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and striking out two.

Campbellsville was paced by Jessie Daniels, who went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, while Korey Harris added a hit, RBI, and a run scored. Karleigh Walker chipped in an RBI single, and the Tigers capitalized on early opportunities to build their lead.

Emma Markham tossed a complete game while allowing just one run on five hits with four strikeouts. She kept the Phoenix off balance throughout, stranding six runners and working efficiently to secure the win.

The Tigers struck first in the opening inning, using a walk and a sacrifice bunt to set up an RBI single from Karleigh Walker for a 1-0 lead. Campbellsville extended its advantage in the third inning when Daniels launched a two-run home run to right center, pushing the margin to 3-0.

Cumberland answered in the fourth inning as Chappell singled and later scored on Brogdon's RBI double to cut the deficit to 3-1.

Campbellsville responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning putting two runners on and moving them to scoring position with a sac bunt. A squeeze bunt plated one run and the second came across on a first and third steal to extend the lead to 5-1.
The Phoenix threatened in the seventh, loading the bases with no outs, but were unable to capitalize as Markham struck out two and then induced a game-ending fly out.

Cumberland returns home next weekend to host No. 18 Cumberlands in a Mid-South Conference series, with Senior Day festivities scheduled for Saturday.
