Then Bops Three Home Runs as CU Run Rules Georgetown

LEBANON, Tenn.--Cumberland Baseball continued its offensive surge on Friday afternoon, rolling to a 13-2 run-rule victory over Georgetown at Woody Hunt Stadium.

The win marks the second-straight run-rule decision for the Phoenix as they improve to 15-20 overall and 2-5 in Mid-South Conference play.

Cumberland wasted no time setting the tone, plating three runs in the first inning before breaking the game open with a five-run third. The Phoenix tallied 14 hits in the contest, highlighted by a monster performance from Wilser Then, who went 4-for-5 with three home runs and six RBIs.

Aiden McDonald added a strong day at the plate, finishing 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles and an RBI, while Gabriel Reyes went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, and two RBIs. Cole Freeman and Wyatt Hurt each contributed late RBIs as Cumberland continued to apply pressure throughout.

On the mound, Logan Baskin delivered a complete-game effort, allowing just two runs on six hits while striking out nine over seven innings to earn his fourth win of the season.

Georgetown's offense was limited to six hits, with Diondre Jacob providing the lone highlight with a two-run home run in the third inning.

Cumberland jumped ahead early in the first inning, capitalizing on timely hitting and a Georgetown miscue. McDonald drove in the first run with an RBI double. Then roped a single to put runners on the corners before Cal Royer scored on a passed ball. Reyes drove Then in with an RBI double to right field.

After Georgetown cut the lead to 3-2 in the third with a home run, Cumberland responded immediately with its biggest inning of the day. McDonald doubled and Royer drew a base on balls to set up a three-run bomb from Then to left field. Reyes followed with a home run to right-center to go back-to-back with Then. Cumberland continued the rally after the home runs. LaRue drew a bases loaded walk to plate one more run in the inning for 8-2 lead.

Then added his second home run of the game in the fourth inning, and the Phoenix continued to tack on runs with an RBI hit-by-pitch from Gaines Haussin.

In the sixth inning, Cole Freeman laced a double down the line and Wyatt Hurt followed with an RBI knock for a 11-2 lead.

Cumberland earned the run-rule victory in the seventh. Jordan Sheridan singled with two outs and Then bopped his third home run of the game to enforce the mercy rule.

The Phoenix will return to action tomorrow with a doubleheader against Georgetown as part of Military Appreciation Day at Woody Hunt Stadium. The first 150 veterans and active duty will receive a free CU baseball hat as well as get a free hot dog from the concession stand.
