Cumberland Men's Tennis Split Doubleheader with GGC and UTS to Conclude Regular Season

PULASKI, Tenn. - - Cumberland men's tennis split a tough doubleheader on Wednesday, falling to Georgia Gwinnett 5-0 before bouncing back with a gritty 4-3 win over Tennessee Southern.

In the opener, Cumberland ran into a dominant Georgia Gwinnett squad that has held the No. 1 ranking for much of this season. The Grizzlies swept all three doubles courts to take the early point, then carried that momentum into singles, winning on every court before the match could fully play out.

Cumberland struggled to find rhythm throughout, with Carlos Morillas, Arthur Fernandes, and Matheus Guarnieri all falling in straight sets as Georgia Gwinnett ran away with it.

The Phoenix responded in a big way in the second match, edging Tennessee Southern 4-3 in a tightly contested match. Cumberland secured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2, as the teams split the three courts.

In singles, Cumberland got key contributions throughout the lineup. Guarnieri delivered a strong straight-set win at No. 2, while Fernandes followed with a composed performance at

No. 3. Bouhlel provided one of the decisive moments of the match, grinding out a three-set victory at No. 4 to clinch the team win.

Despite losses on courts one, five, and six, the Phoenix did enough across the middle of the lineup to secure the comeback victory.

Cumberland closes out their regular season with the victory, looking forward to MSC tournament playing coming soon.
