PULASKI, Tenn. - - Cumberland fell 4-2 to Georgia Gwinnett on Wednesday night in a ranked duel between the Phoenix and Grizzlies.

The match opened with doubles play, where Georgia Gwinnett took early control by winning two of the three courts. The Phoenix duo of Asya Tilsim Timur and Madeleine Darud secured Cumberland's lone doubles win at the No. 3 spot with a dominant 6-0 performance, but it wasn't enough to claim the doubles point, as both pairings of Elina Sungatullina and Maria Arbelaez and Juanita and Valetina Mendez were shut out.

In singles, Cumberland battled back to take a pair of points from the No. 25 Grizzlies before the match was concluded. Madeleine Darud won in quick fashion at five singles, 6-1, 6-1. Behind her, Ame van Eijk worked even quicker as she shut her opponent 6-0, 6-0.

However, Georgia Gwinnett proved too deep down the lineup. They secured wins at No. 3, No. 5, and No. 6 singles in straight sets to clinch the match. The most competitive battle came at No. 4 singles, where Elina Sungatullina and Mireia Simon Sanchez were locked up in their third set with the Phoenix No. 4 leading 3-6, 6-4, 5-3.

Cumberland and UT Southern were in the middle of their match whenever it was decided that the match would be postponed until further notice.
