Cumberland Athletics Posts 3.216 Spring Semester GPA

LEBANON, Tenn.--Cumberland University student-athletes continued to excel in the classroom during the Spring 2026 semester, posting a department-wide 3.216 grade point average while 121 student-athletes recorded a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Cumberland Athletics saw success across all programs with 20 teams earning a semester GPA of 3.0 or higher and six programs posting a term GPA of at least 3.500. Overall, 649 student-athletes combined to complete more than 29,000 credit hours during the semester while maintaining a strong standard of academic success. The Phoenix in total had 164 NAIA Scholar-Athletes this season given to a sophomore or above with a 3.5 or better grade-point average. 

"We are incredibly proud of the dedication our student-athletes continue to show in the classroom," said Vice President of Athletics Ron Pavan. "Success at Cumberland is about developing the complete student-athlete, and these results reflect the commitment, discipline, and support systems that allow our students to thrive academically while competing at a high level."

Women's Track & Field sprinted past the competition academically to lead Cumberland Athletics with a department-best 3.867 semester GPA. Women's Golf continued to drive academic excellence, teeing off with a 3.845 GPA and four student-athletes carding a flawless semester. Women's Volleyball set the standard in the classroom with a 3.682 GPA with 11 student-athletes posting a 4.0. Men's Golf added a 3.657 GPA while Men's Tennis rounded out the Top Five with a 3.566 GPA.

Women's Bowling rolled through the semester with a 3.545 GPA while Men's Volleyball spiked the term with a 3.490 GPA. Softball knocked academics out of the park, swinging to a 3.451 GPA. Men's Soccer scored big academically with a 3.340 GPA and nine student-athletes with a perfect semester, narrowly edging Women's Soccer, which tallied a 3.339 GPA and nine student-athletes scoring a 4.0. Men's Bowling added a 3.365 GPA this semester. 

Esports leveled up in the classroom with a 3.316 GPA and a department-best 21 student-athletes unlocking a perfect 4.0. Baseball added a 3.259 GPA with seven 4.0's, while Women's Tennis rallied to a 3.265 GPA. Women's Cross Country paced itself to a 3.257 GPA while Men's Track & Field stayed on pace with a 3.150 GPA.

Women's Basketball put points on the board in the classroom with a 3.095 GPA. Men's Cross Country crossed the finish line with a 3.083 GPA. Football moved the chains academically, earning a 3.071 GPA with 15 student-athletes scoring a perfect semester, while Wrestling grappled its way to a 3.057 GPA with five student-athletes pinning down a 4.0.

Cumberland Athletics currently carries a cumulative department GPA of 3.344 with 42 student-athletes maintaining a perfect cumulative 4.0 GPA.
