Lubitz Becomes First Collegiate Apex Player to Reach Esports World Cup

LEBANON, Tenn.--Cumberland Esports Apex player Joshua Lubitz is set to compete in the 2026 Esports World Cup in Paris, France, becoming the first collegiate Apex Legends player ever to qualify for the prestigious event.

Hosted by the Esports World Cup Foundation (EWCF) and ESL FACEIT Group, the Esports World Cup is one of the premier international esports competitions in the world. The 2026 edition marks the third installment of the event and will feature top players and organizations from across the globe competing on Esports' biggest stage.

Lubitz, known competitively as JFuture, enjoyed a standout first season with the Phoenix during the 2025-26 campaign. Serving as Cumberland's In-Game Leader (IGL), he helped guide the team to a fifth-place finish at the Octane Collegiate Invitational before leading the Phoenix to the program's first-ever NECC Collegiate Apex Legends National Championship in San Antonio.

His success throughout the year has now earned him a place among the world's elite competitors. Lubitz will represent the Dinos at the Esports World Cup, competing on the main stage against the top Apex Legends players and teams from around the world.

"After all the hard work, dedication, and effort from Joshua this year, he deserves this opportunity to show why he is one of the best," said Cumberland Esports Director Spencer Claypool.

Lubitz's qualification adds another milestone to a great year for Cumberland Esports.
