LEBANON, Tenn.--Cumberland scored twice in the second half and controlled the match from start to finish to defeat Milligan, 2-0, Saturday afternoon at Lindsey Donnell Stadium.

Adelyn Drane and Ruth Rodriguez each netted their first goal of the season as Cumberland improved to 2-1. Victoria Collins added an assist, while Sydney Eads and the Phoenix defense recorded the clean sheet.

Cumberland dominated possession and generated a 31-3 advantage in shots, placing 10 attempts on goal. The Phoenix also held Milligan without a shot on target.

The Phoenix applied pressure immediately, firing six shots over the opening 18 minutes. Cumberland continued to push forward throughout the half and earned six corner kicks, but Milligan goalkeeper Christian Davis made four saves to keep the match scoreless at the break.

Cumberland needed just 14 seconds after halftime to break through. Collins created the opportunity and found Drane, who finished the attack to give the Phoenix a 1-0 lead. The goal proved to be the game-winner.

Rodriguez doubled the advantage in the 65th minute, scoring on a 30-yard rocket on a free kick to double the lead.

The Phoenix continued attacking after taking the two-goal lead. Uxia Varela put two late attempts on target and struck the post in the 87th minute before Abigale Alexander hit the woodwork moments later.

Varela led all players with eight shots and placed three on goal. Drane finished with five attempts, Alexander added four and Rodriguez recorded three. Collins placed all three of her shots on frame while collecting the match's lone assist.

Davis finished with eight saves for Milligan. Eads played all 90 minutes in goal for Cumberland and earned the shutout without being forced to make a save.

The Phoenix will be back in action on Wednesday, September 2nd as Cumberland welcomes Eastern Oregon to Lindsey Donnell Stadium.
