LEBANON, Tenn. - - Cumberland University women's soccer stayed in the win column Tuesday afternoon, earning a 2-0 victory over Williams Baptist after Senior Day festivities.
After a scoreless opening half, the Phoenix broke through early in the second. In the 51st minute, Victoria Collins put Cumberland on the board, finishing off an assist from
Uxia Varela to give the Phoenix a 1-0 lead.
Cumberland continued to apply pressure throughout the second half before doubling its advantage in the 76th minute. Sabrina Barbosa found the back of the net off an assist from Collins, extending the Phoenix lead to 2-0.
The Phoenix controlled the offensive tempo throughout the afternoon, finishing with 41 shots, including 17 on goal, while Williams Baptist managed just three shots. Cumberland also held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Sydney Eads recorded the shutout in goal for Cumberland, making the clean sheet without being forced to make a save.
With the victory, Cumberland improves to 8-2-1 on the season. The Phoenix will return to Mid-South Conference action Thursday, traveling to Georgetown College for a conference matchup.
