LEBANON, Tenn. - - Cumberland volleyball battled through a competitive match Friday night, taking down Georgetown Tigers 3-1.

The Phoenix controlled the opening set, taking a 25-17 victory to grab an early 1-0 advantage.

Cumberland carried that momentum into the second set, building an early lead and continuing to keep Georgetown just out of reach throughout the frame. The Phoenix created separation midway through the set, using big sets from Bianca Guceanu, Liberty Shadix, Hailey Jones and Carola Schnidrig to maintain control.
Cumberland pushed its lead to 24-14 and despite Georgetown battling back with a pair of points, the Phoenix closed out the set on a kill from Carlee Rogers, securing a 25-16 victory and taking a 2-0 match lead.

Georgetown responded in the third set, jumping out to an early 4-0 lead before Cumberland battled back. The Phoenix eventually tied the set at 13-13 and continued to trade points with the Tigers throughout the middle portion of the frame.

Cumberland took a 20-19 lead late in the set following a kill from Rogers, but Georgetown answered with a 6-0 run to move ahead 24-20. The Phoenix fought off two set points, but Georgetown ultimately closed out the third set, 25-22, to cut Cumberland's match lead to 2-1.

The Phoenix answered in the fourth set, jumping out to a 5-1 lead and continuing to build its advantage. Cumberland extended its lead to 15-6 before Georgetown began to chip away.

The Tigers cut the deficit to 19-10 and later 22-16, but Cumberland held its ground late in the set. A kill from Guceanu pushed the Phoenix to match point at 24-16 before Georgetown committed an attack error, giving Cumberland a 25-16 fourth-set victory and sealing the 3-1 match win.

With the victory, Cumberland improves to 10-11 overall and 2-1 in Mid-South Conference play. The Phoenix will stay at home and face Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders on Tuesday at 7 p.m. CT at Dallas Floyd Phoenix Arena.
