Jones Earns First Career MSC Defender of the Week Honor

LEBANON, Tenn.--Cumberland women's volleyball junior Hailey Jones was named the Mid-South Conference Defender of the Week for the first time in her career, conference officials announced Monday.

Jones was a force at the net for the Phoenix, totaling 20 blocks over 14 sets for an average of 1.43 blocks per set. The Franklin, Tenn., native collected five solo blocks and 15 block assists across Cumberland's four matches.

The junior middle hitter posted six total blocks in each of the Phoenix's first three matches of the week. Jones opened with one solo block and five block assists in Cumberland's sweep of Olivet Nazarene before matching those numbers against No. 12 Aquinas. She added two solo blocks and four block assists againstNo. 15  Mount Vernon Nazarene before closing the week with two blocks against RV Cornerstone.

Jones also contributed offensively, recording 19 kills and 31.5 points. She registered six kills without an error for a .600 attacking percentage against Olivet Nazarene and posted a week-high seven kills against Mount Vernon Nazarene.

Jones is 18th in the NAIA in blocks this season with 49 and inside the top 25 in block assists with 38 to go along with 11 solos. 

The award is the first weekly conference honor of Jones' career.

The Phoenix return home this Saturday to take on Point University.
