LEBANON, Tenn. – Mike Mandarino homered twice and drove in three runs and Cory Urquhart went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs in seventh-ranked Cumberland’s 11-1 victory in seven innings over Mid-Continent on Friday at Elam Stadium in Union City, Tenn.

Mandarino (3-1) also struck out eight and allowed one run on four hits in six innings to pick up the victory on the mound as well. The Bulldogs (9-7, 2-1 TranSouth) won 2-of-3 in the series and continue the current nine-game road swing starting Monday with five games in three games in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Cumberland scored six times in the first two innings and added five more runs in the fifth and sixth innings, breaking out of its offensive struggles for at least one day.

Woody Stewart (0-2), the first of four Mid-Continent (5-15, 1-2) hurlers, took the loss, giving up six runs on three hits in one-plus inning. MCU made an error in the first and second inning that led to a pair of unearned runs.

Urquhart started the game with a double and Sam Lind reached on an error. Josh McGee singled to center, loading the bases, before sacrifice flies from Mandarino and Brodie Ross for a 2-0 advantage after a half inning.

Nick Sydnor led off the second inning with a walk and Tyler Alford reached on a fielder’s choice. Sydnor went to third on the plate after a throwing error by shortstop Jordyn Abell and Antonio Butler followed with a two-run single.

Butler stole second and third and Urquhart walked, chasing Stewart from the game. Urquhart then stole second and both runners scored on a double from Lind, giving CU a 6-0 lead.

Mandarino led off the fifth with a solo homer and Ross reached on an error. He later scored on a double from Sydnor and Alford followed with a walk. Urquhart’s two-out, two-run double pushed the Bulldog advantage to 10-0.

Mandarino hit another solo homer to leadoff the sixth for CU’s final run.

MCU’s only run came on a solo homer from Richard Arias to start the bottom of the sixth.

Cumberland plays Bellevue University on Monday at 1 p.m. CT and takes on fifth-ranked Embry-Riddle at 5 p.m. CT on Monday as well.
