LEBANON, Tenn. – Logan Neal tossed a complete game in the opener and Mike Mandarino collected four hits and four RBIs combined in two contests, as seventh-ranked Cumberland defeated Bellevue University, 10-2, before dropping an 8-5 decision against No. 5 Embry-Riddle on Monday in Daytona Beach, Fla.

The Bulldogs (10-8) stranded 11 runners against Embry-Riddle, six in scoring position, and also walked 10 Eagles hitters, four of whom scored, in the second game of the day. ERAU (16-5) managed just six hits in the contest but took advantage of the free passes to post the victory. The two teams meet again Tuesday at 5 p.m. CT.

Neal (1-0) scattered nine hits, walked one and struck out four in the complete-game victory, by far the longest outing of the lefthander’s career. His previous long outing was five innings against Shawnee State on March 13, 2010.

Mandarino collected three hits, Josh McGee drove in three runs and Cory Urquhart and Sam Lind each posted two hits and scored twice in a 10-2 victory over Bellevue (6-8). Nick Sydnor and Urquhart both drove in a pair of runs, as CU scored in six different innings on their way to the win.

The Bulldogs scored single runs in the second and third inning for an early lead.

Sydnor hit a solo homer down the rightfield line in the second inning and Urquhart and Lind both singled to start the third. Urquhart went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a ground ball from McGee for a 2-0 CU edge.

The Bruins plated a run in the fourth, as Kevin Nelson walked and Tanner Moore singled to start the frame. Both runners moved up on a sacrifice bunt by Spencer Duggan and Sean Mattson’s line drove plated a run, making it 2-1 Bulldogs.

CU answered with three runs in the fifth to take control of the game. Antonio Butler drew a leadoff walk and scored on Urquhart’s double before Lind walked as well. Mandarino singled to load the bases and McGee’s walk forced in a run. Lind later scored on a wild pitch, giving the Bulldogs a 5-1 lead.

Dusty Kerns hit a solo homer in the bottom of the inning for Bellevue, but that would be all for the Bruins in the scoring column on this day.

Cumberland added a run in the sixth when Lind walked and Mandarino followed with an RBI double down the leftfield lin. The Bulldogs expanded the lead again in the eighth after Craig Monson walked, Butler moved him to second with a sacrifice bunt, Monson took third on a wild pitch and he scored on a sac fly from Urquhart.

In the ninth CU added three more runs, starting with a leadoff double from Mandarino and an RBI single by McGee. Tyler Wheeler singled home a run later in the inning and he scored two batters later on Sydnor’s RBI single for the final tally of the game.

Kody McFarland (2-2), the first of three BU hurlers, took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits in 4.1 innings. He walked six, struck out two and threw three wild pitches.

Against Embry-Riddle, the Eagles scored twice in the third inning to take an early lead with one run coming across on a Bulldog error.

Adam Cellini singled to leadoff the inning and Greg Smith reached on an error by Lind at second base on a bunt attempt. Frankie Arias’ sacrifice moved the runners up, with one scoring on a groundout by Jordan Romero and another on a single up the middle by Ben Kline.

ERAU scored twice more in the fifth, chasing Bulldog starter Devin Stovall from the contest.

Smith walked to leadoff, stole second and moved to third on a groundout by Arias. Romero singled through the leftside and Kline followed with a double, putting runners on second and third. Chris Page was intentionally walked, loading the bases, before Ian MacGeorge walked, forcing in a run and ending the day for Stovall.

CU finally got on the board in the sixth, starting with leadoff singles from William Henderson and Sydnor. Tyler Alford’s bunt pushed both runners up a base, but Antonio Butler struck out before a two-out infield single by Urquhart plated Henderson. Lind walked to extend the inning, but Mandarino flied out to rightcenter, ending the threat.

The Eagles broke open the game in the seventh against CU reliever Christian Jennings, who entered after Mitch Rainer tossed 1.2 scoreless frames in relief of Stovall.

Kline walked to leadoff and Page was hit before a groundout by MacGeorge put runners on second and third. Hood was intentionally walked to load the bases and JT Warmoth reached on a throwing error by McGee at third base. Cellini walked, forcing in another run, before a two-run single to center from Arias made it 8-1 ERAU.

After stranding 11 runners in the first seven innings, the Bulldogs responded with a four-spot of their own in the eighth. Butler started the rally with a two-out single, prompting a pitching change by the Eagles. Urquhart walked and Lind doubled down the rightfield line, plating a run. Mandarino then belted a three-run shot to left, cutting the deficit to 8-5.

ERAU starter Kevin Maloney tossed 7.2 innings for the win, giving up two runs on nine hits. He walked four and struck out eight. David Lidyard tossed a perfect ninth to pick up the save for ERAU, his first of the season.

Stovall (1-2) took the loss, allowing three earned runs on five hits with five walks and one strikeout.
