The Bulldogs got on the board with three runs in the first inning in the opening game, all with two outs. Mandarino belted a solo homer, his 13th of the season, before Josh McGee doubled and Ferrell homered to leftcenter, his first of the year, for an early lead.

In the second Butler beat out an infield single, stole second and scored on Daniel Harrison’s single to right. He went to second on a wild pitch and scored on Mandarino’s single to left for a 5-0 advantage.

CU added another run in the third when Butler had another infield single with one out, stole second and scored on Cory Urquhart’s single to left.

The Grenadiers plated an unearned run in the fourth when Marcus Howard reached on an error and went to second on a sacrifice bunt from Mychal Harris. Frank Pluskota’s two-out bloop double down the leftfield line drove home Harris.

A costly error by the Bulldogs opened the door for IUS in the sixth.

Trey Richard led off with a single but Roberts followed with a ground ball that looked tailor-made for a doubleplay, but Harrison dropped the throw at second. Justin Hurst was hit, loading the bases, before RBI singles from Tyler Woolums and Howard.

Josh Mattingly’s RBI single to right chased Rainer from the game and Coe gave up a two-run double to Plustoka, tying the game at six, before the righthander got a strikeout and a groundout to end the inning.

The Bulldogs responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning, starting a walk to Mandarino and a single from Ferrell. Sydnor’s double down the rightfield line plated a run and Ross followed with a two-run single to center for a 9-6 lead.

Indiana-Southeast loaded the bases in the seventh, starting with a leadoff walk to Roberts. Hurst singled to right and Howard walked with one out, but Stovall struck out Harris and Mattingly grounded to third to end the contest.

IUS starter Elliott Fuller gave up six runs in the first three innings but settled down, lasting 4.2 innings. He allowed 11 hits with two walks and six strikeouts.

The Grenadiers started fast in the second game, with Plustoka singling with two outs before a two-run homer to right by Maupin in the first inning gave IUS a 2-0 edge.

In the third Richard blooped a leadoff single down the rightfield line and eventually scored on a two-out single by Roberts for a 3-0 advantage.

IUS added three more runs in the fourth when Harris, Howard and Mattingly all led off with singles, loading the bases. With one out Pluskota was hit, forcing in a run, and Maupin plated a run with a single to center. A single to left from Roberts pushed across another run for a 6-0 lead.

Harris started the fifth with a walk, stole second and went to third on a throwing error. Howard then blooped a short single behind the second base bag, plating Harris. A bad pickoff throw allowed Howard to get all the way to third and he scored on a sacrifice fly from Richard.

The Bulldogs finally got on the board in the bottom of the inning with a leadoff single by McGee and a two-out single from Ben Foster. Craig Monson’s infield hit scored a run and another came across on Heath Holliday’s single to left, but Monson was tagged out after sliding past third base on the play.
