Box Score
LEBANON, Tenn. – Logan Neal tossed a complete game, scattering 10 hits and giving up just two earned runs, but two costly errors led to three runs in the first inning and Cumberland stranded 11 baserunners in a 5-1 loss to 13th-ranked Lindsey Wilson Tuesday night in Columbia, Ky.
The Bulldogs (23-21) collected just six hits in the game but did not take advantage of six walks by two Lindsey Wilson (32-10) hurlers. Six of the 11 runners were left on base in scoring position, as CU was just 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position in the game.
Neal (2-1) worked eight innings in the loss, walking one and striking out three. He retired 10 of 12 batters after the three-run first inning for the Blue Raiders and four of LWC’s 10 hits came in the final three frames.
Jeremy Greene (2-2) posted the victory for Lindsey Wilson, giving up one run on six hits. He walked five and struck out six before giving way to Daniel Pulliam, who earned his second save of the year with 1.1 innings of work, walking one.
Cory Urquhart went 3-for-5 for the Bulldogs, while four LWC players each collected two hits and Lenadro Perez and Manuel Ozoria both scored twice.
Will Henderson and Urquhart both singled to leadoff the game and Cody Ferrell walked with two outs, but CU came away with nothing in the inning, a sign of things to come in the contest.
The Blue Raiders got on the board in the bottom of the inning when Perez reached on an error by Neal and went to second on a bad pickoff attempt. Manuel Alonso doubled home a run and Ozoria’s two-out single up the middle plated another. Tyler Bernard followed with a run-scoring double for a 3-0 edge for the home team.
Ozoria and Bernard both singled to start the LWC sixth, putting runners on the corners, and a groundout by Ryan Williams gave the Blue Raiders a 4-0 advantage. Perez led off the seventh with a triple and scored on a single from Adam Peacock for a 5-0 edge.
Cumberland finally got on the board in the eighth when Sam Lind walked to leadoff and Brodie Ross was hit with two outs. Nick Sydnor’s single to right scored Ferrell, but pinch-hitter Heath Holliday grounded out to end the inning.
Cumberland hosts Blue Mountain College in a three-game series starting Friday at 2 p.m. and continuing Saturday at Noon.
