LEBANON, Tenn. – Daniel Harrison went 5-for-5 with three RBIs and Chris Hall added four hits, as Cumberland collected 22 hits and scored in seven innings in a 14-10 victory over 20th-ranked Georgetown College in the Mid-South Conference opener for both teams on Friday at Ernest L. Stockton Field-Woody Hunt Stadium.

The Bulldogs (7-3-1, 1-0 Mid-South) and Tigers (7-7, 0-1) conclude the series with a doubleheader Saturday starting at Noon.

Cumberland scored eight runs in the first two innings, but Georgetown responded with five runs in the third and two more in the fifth, highlighted by a pair of home runs by Jordan Hinshaw.

The Bulldogs added single runs in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings and scored twice more in the eighth, roughing up four GC hurlers. CU stranded 13 base runners in the game, including leaving the bags full in the second and seventh innings and two runners in the fifth and sixth.

Georgetown scored three runs in the ninth and had the bases loaded and nobody out after three straight errors, but two fly balls and a groundout ended the game for CU.

Kevin T. Greene (3-0) picked up the win with eight innings of work, allowing seven runs on 10 hits. He did not walk a batter and struck out five and really did a great job except for one inning when he gave up five runs on six hits.

Tyler Arthur (1-3) took the loss for Georgetown, giving up eight runs on nine hits in 1.2 innings. Three Tigers relievers allowed six runs on 13 hits in 6.1 frames with four walks and three strikeouts.

Craig Monson and Richie Seaton each posted three hits and Robert Gonzalez added two hits and scored three runs. Justin Johnston also had two hits and scored twice, while Cory Urquhart registered two hits and two RBIs.

Hinshaw finished with three hits and six RBIs and Marvin Flores added three hits for Georgetown.

The Bulldogs started quickly with five runs in the first on six hits, starting leadoff singles by Gonzalez and Johnston. Gonzalez took third on Johnston’s single and Johnston went to second on the throw. Gonzalez scored on Urquhart’s groundout and Johnston came across on a single up the middle by Monson.

Seaton singled to center before an RBI chopper into short right by Harrison. Hall then laced a double down the rightfield line and Brodie Ross pushed across the final run of the inning with a groundout.

CU added three more runs in the second when Urquhart singled with two outs and Monson ripped a triple off the base of the centerfield wall. Seaton reached on an error by second baseman Mike Steinke, extending the inning, before Harrison doubled over the head of centerfielder Justin Moore, giving the Bulldogs an 8-0 advantage.

But the Tigers answered with five runs of their own in the third. Flores and Tanner Baldwin both singled to begin the inning and Steinke’s single to left plated pinch-runner TC O’Neal. With two outs Martin Lemus plated a run with a single to left before a line drive three-run homer to rightcenter from Hinshaw cut the deficit to 8-5.

The Bulldogs got a run back in the fourth after back-to-back doubles from Seaton and Harrison, but Georgetown came right back with two more runs in the fifth.

Steinke led off with a single and Hinshaw belted a two-out, two-run homer to rightcenter, just out of the reach of Ross, as Cumberland held on to a 9-7 advantage.

CU added another run in the bottom of the inning, as Gonzalez doubled with one out, Johnston followed with a single and Urquhart’s ground ball plated the run.

Ross made the play of the day in the top of the sixth, robbing Moore of a two-run homer in rightcenter that would have cut the lead to one to end the inning.

The Bulldogs scored again in the bottom of the inning when Harrison led off with a single and Hall reached on a single that hit the pitcher’s glove and bounced by the second baseman, putting runners on the corners. Tyler Alford’s infield single on the left side scored Harrison for an 11-7 CU lead.

In the seventh Seaton beat out an infield single between the plate and third base and Harrison followed with his fifth hit of the game. Hall walked, loading the bases, and Ross also drew a free pass, forcing in a run.

In the eighth Gonzalez reached on an error and Johnston walked before a short single to right by Urquhart loaded the bases. Monson’s sacrifice fly to left plated one run and Johnston moved to third. The throw went to third and Urquhart moved up late, with the throw to second getting away and allowing Johnston to score on the play.

In the ninth Flores singled to leadoff before three straight errors, one each by Tyler Anderson, Kevin P. Greene and Monson, plated one run and left the bases loaded with no one out. But Kevin P. Greene got two fly balls before a two-out double by Hinshaw. David Higuera grounded out to short to end the game, a little over three hours after the first pitch.
