Box Score LEBANON, Tenn. – Chaz Meadows posted a three-run homer, a three-run double and drove in seven runs, as Georgetown College scored 10 runs in the middle innings in a 12-0 victory over Cumberland in baseball action Friday in Georgetown, Ky.
The teams conclude the series with an 11 a.m. Central Time doubleheader Saturday at Robert N. Wilson Field.
Meadows drove in a run with a single in the third, hit a three-run homer in the fourth and added a bases-clearing double in the fifth. He finished the game 3-for-4 with seven RBIs and two runs scored, part of a 13-hit attack for the Tigers.
Robert Longtree collected two hits and scored three times, while Sam Medina recorded three hits, one RBI and scored a run. Damian Rutherford was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and Trey Gross added two hits, two RBIs and three runs scored for the home team.
That was more than enough offense for Shawn Kennedy (6-2), who tossed a three-hit shutout in seven innings for Georgetown. He walked two, struck out five and retired 14 of the first 17 batters of the game.
Cumberland starter Erik Barron (2-2) was roughed up, allowing seven runs on eight hits with four strikeouts in four innings.
Medina tripled to leadoff the second inning for Georgetown and he scored on a groundout by Nicholas Lugo.
Rutherford singled to start the third inning and came across on a triple to leftcenter by Gross. Longtree followed with an RBI single and he went to third on a throwing error by CU left fielder Gabe Lares. Meadows’ RBI single through the left side plated Longtree for a 4-0 Tigers advantage.
Gross reached on an error with one out in the fourth and Longtree singled before a three-run homer by Meadows, extending the lead to 7-0.
Georgetown continued to pour it on in the fifth, with Jalen Poindexter reaching on a hit by pitch to begin the frame. A sacrifice bunt pushed the runner to second and Rutherford’s double put runners on second and third.
Gross walked, loading the bases, and after a fielder’s choice, Meadows emptied the bags with a double to leftcenter. Two batters later Medina singled through the right side, plating Meadows for an 11-0 advantage.
In the sixth Rutherford doubled with one out, took third on a wild pitch and scored on an infield single by Gross.
