Stockton Field-Woody Hunt Stadium.

The Phoenix end the home schedule this weekend with a three-game series against 16th-ranked Campbellsville University starting Friday at 2 p.m.

Croft’s two-run double to rightcenter put Cumberland on the board and four more runs came across in the second inning thanks to three Bryan (32-14) errors. Gabe Lares walked to force in a run and a groundout by Steven Hollis preceded the two-run double from Dickison in the third inning, extending the CU advantage to 10-2.

Jeses Astudillo hit a mammoth blast for the Lions to get the visitors on the board in the second and Crandon Wallace’s two-run shot in the sixth along with a sacrifice fly by Justin Morhardt in the seventh pulled Bryan within 11-6.

The Lions loaded the bases in the ninth with three straight singles by Langston Calhoun, Morhardt and Cody Rhinehart and a walk to Andrew Urbistondo forced in a run. Brookes Jones’ ground ball to the left side looked destined for left field, but Nick McGrew made a nice backhand stab and got the force at third for the first out of the inning.

A run scored on the play, but Joshua Mollett came on to strike out Astudillo and Wallace to end the game, posting his fourth save of the year.

Langer allowed six runs on seven hits in seven innings, tying his season-long for innings pitched. The righthander walked three and struck out five, working around three Cumberland errors.

Bryan starter Brandon Marklund (1-2) lasted just one-plus inning, giving up six runs, three earned, on three hits.

Dickison and Croft each collected two hits and two RBIs and Croft scored twice for the Phoenix, who managed only seven hits but took advantage of four Bryan miscues and seven walks.

Astudillo’s towering home run that landed on Tarver Avenue gave the Lions a 1-0 edge in the second inning, but Cumberland answered with six runs in the bottom of the frame.

Mike Melendez walked and Tyler Yorko doubled before the two-run, two-bagger from Croft. Hector Viera then grounded to short, but Urbistondo let the ball go right between his legs and into centerfield, allowing Croft to score.

Kyle Allen bunted and Marklund fumbled the ball down the first base line, throwing it away. Viera never stopped running and scored on the play. Gabe Lares also bunted, forcing the first baseman to field the ball. The throw to first hit the glove of the pitcher and rolled into foul territory, putting runners on second and third.

Pinch-runner Bo Saunders came across on a balk and McGrew’s groundout plated another for a 6-1 CU advantage.

Evan Speicher led off the third inning for Bryan with a single and Preston King also singled to center before a groundout by Calhoun put runners on the corners. Morhardt’s grounder to second turned into a fielder’s choice when the runner at second was called safe. Speicher scored on the play, but Langer got two more ground balls to end the inning without further damage.

Walks to Croft and Allen sandwiched around a single by Viera loaded the bases for the Phoenix in the fourth. Another free pass, this one to Lares, forced in a run, and a groundout to first by Hollis scored another. Dickison then doubled to rightcenter, extending the Cumberland lead to 10-2.

King reached to start the fifth when Langer dropped a toss from Melendez on a grounder to first. He took second on a wild pitch and scored on Calhoun’s single to right, but again, Langer got a strikeout and a groundout to keep the damage to one run.
