Cumberland Athletics Stands 35th in NAIA 2023-24 LEARFIELD Directors' Cup after Fall Championships

LEBANON, Tenn.--After the completion of all fall championships, Cumberland Athletics sits in 35th in the LEARFIELD Directors' Cup Standings, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) officials announced on Thursday.

The Phoenix totaled 114 points during the fall championships -- which includes men and women's cross country, football, men and women's soccer and women's volleyball. Last season, the Phoenix were in 53rd at this point before finishing in 25th in the final standings.

Cumberland women's soccer amassed 64 points from reaching the NAIA Final Site and the Round of 16. Men's soccer added in 50 points making it to the NAIA National Tournament second round.

Indiana Wesleyan leads the way for the NAIA with 415.50 points after sending each of their fall sports deep in the postseason. The College of Idaho is in second with 356.50 points, the Cumberlands is in third with 329.00 points and in fourth is Milligan with 270.00 points. Rounding out the top-five is Keiser and St. Thomas with 228.00 points each.

Cumberland is in third among the Mid-South Conference teams in the standings. The Patriots are in third after sending five teams to their NAIA National Championships with three Top 10 finishes including the Women's Soccer National Championship. Bethel is in 17th place with 179.00 points. Bethel had three teams make the NAIA National Tournament as their football team made the quarterfinals while men's and women's soccer also made postseason appearances.

Georgetown is in 55th place as their football team reached the semifinals to earn 83 points and Lindsey Wilson picked up 50 points from men's soccer to sit in 85th.

The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between NACDA and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in 13 sports during their championships. The NAIA must count four sports -- men and women's basketball, men's soccer and volleyball -- with the remaining nine coming from any of the remaining championship sports.

The winter standings are scheduled to be released on March 28.
