Men's Tennis Take Down Wildcats in MSC Action

McKenzie, Tenn. - - The Cumberland Men's tennis team hit the road after a short home stretch and took down conference opponents Bethel, 5-2.

Doubles was firmly in the grasp of the Phoenix, taking their first match after just 22 minutes of play. Dan Slapnik Trost and Adrijan Hrzic lined up at the No. 2 position and after allowing their opponents to hold their first service game, never looked back, winning 6-1.

Court three saw the Phoenix take the doubles point as Elisey Kalashikov and Paul-Daniel Meyer took just five more minutes to win their match, 6-2. No. 1 doubles took the longest of the three, however, Daniel Wessels and German Suarez still managed the sweep, winning 7-5.

Bethel found more success in singles as they took down two Cumberland players, winning at the fourth and fifth position. Paul-Daniel Meyer dropped his match in a heartbreaker, losing in his third set tiebreak, 3-6, 6-1, 6-7 (4-7).

Elisey Kalashikov fought hard at the fifth spot, but could not manage a victory, falling 4-6, 3-6.

Outside of just one other match, that being Julian Parada's, the Phoenix were able to win in straight sets on every court. Parada played at the No. 3 spots and had two hard sets with his opponent to open the match, but pulled away in the third, winning 7-6, 4-6, 6-1.

At the top spot Daniel Wessels also had to win a set through a tiebreak, taking his first set 6-3, but went the distance in his second set, winning 7-6 (7-5). A spot below Wessels, Adrijan Hrzic took the match for CU, grabbing a 6-2, 6-4, victory.

The final match was at the No. 6 spot, where Dan Slapnik Trost played the quickest singles match of the afternoon, winning 6-1, 6-3, in just under an hour.

The Phoenix will be back at home for their next match on Friday, March 22, hosting another MSC foe, Freed-Hardeman. The match is set to start at 1 PM.
