Pride Resigns as Cumberland Men's and Women's Tennis Coach

LEBANON, Tenn.--Cumberland University Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach Dell Pride has resigned from his position after one season leading the Phoenix tennis programs to accept an NCAA Division I coaching opportunity at Nicholls State.

In his lone season at Cumberland, Pride guided both programs to national recognition and postseason success. The women's team finished 11-10 overall and earned an at-large berth to the NAIA National Championship, where the Phoenix secured their first national tournament victory since 2008 with a 4-3 upset of No. 15-seeded Morningside. Cumberland advanced to the second round of the national tournament and climbed as high as No. 18 in the national rankings during the season.

On the men's side, the Phoenix posted an 8-13 record while competing against one of the nation's toughest schedules and reached as high as No. 19 in the NAIA national rankings. Arthur Fernandes and Mohamed Bouhlel both earned Second Team All-Mid-South Conference honors following standout seasons.

Cumberland Athletics thanks Coach Pride for his contributions to the Phoenix tennis programs and wishes him continued success in his future endeavors.
