Men's Tennis Take Down Lions to Remain Undefeated in MSC

Lebanon, Tenn. - - The Cumberland men's tennis team stayed hot in conference action, taking down Freed-Hardeman 6-1 at home.

Doubles did not take long, as the Phoenix jumped on the Lions early and ran away with the point. In just 21 minutes, Elisey Kalashikov and Paul-Daniel Meyer won at No. 3 doubles, taking the set 6-1.

Cumberland took the doubles point soon after as Vitor Ferreira and Julian Parada got the win at the top singles spot, winning in a quick 6-4 set. German Suarez and Daniel Wessels got the sweep for the Phoenix at the top spot in a 6-2 victory.

Singles action was all CU, with the No. 1 spot being the only to go the way of the Lions, as Daniel Wessels fell in a three set battle. Wessels won the first set in a tiebreak, 7-6 (7-4), but as the match went on he began to run out of steam, dropping the next two sets 7-5 and 6-1.

Vitor Ferreira had the only match of the rest of the day that saw a Lion win more than three games in a set, though he managed to win 6-2, 7-5, and keep the momentum on the Phoenix's side by winning at the No. 2 spot.

Julian Parada and Dan Slapnik Trost were both on the tops of their game, winning in dominant fashion. Parada only allowed a single game in both sets, winning 6-1, 6-1, while Trost was a step ahead, giving the Lions a bagel in both sets, 6-0, 6-0.

Adrijan Hrzic had a tighter contest at No. 4 singles, but still did not allow more than three games in either set, winning 6-2, 6-3. The final match of the day was just short of being as long as the No. 1 spot, with Jackson Vaughan winning 6-1, 6-3, in just under two hours of play.

Cumberland will be back in action at home this weekend, taking on (RV) Campbellsville this Saturday. The match is scheduled to start at 1:00 PM.
