Phoenix Men's Tennis Advances to Mid-South Conference Semifinals with 4-1 win over 5-seed Georgetown

Box Score BOWLING GREEN, Ky.--Cumberland Men's Tennis slides past 5-seed Georgetown in the Mid-South Conference Quarterfinals with a 4-1 win. The Phoenix will take on Lindsey Wilson tomorrow evening in the semifinals. 

The doubles matches set the tone for Cumberland's win. Julian Parada and Vitor Ferreira teamed up to secure a solid victory in the first doubles match at No. 1 besting Max Barriere and William Barnes 6-2. German Suarez and Daniel Wessels clinched the point just a minute later at No. 2 beating Chase Hechemy and Mathew Smith 6-4. Adrijan Hrzic and Dan Slapnik Trost were leading at No. 3 when the point was secured. 

The next point in the match went to Georgetown as Barriere beat Wessels at No. 1 6-3, 6-4, but Parada regained the lead just a minute later at 4-singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Alexander Stragier.

German Suarez delivered a strong performance defeating Tsugunosuke Hirose, 6-4, 6-3 to lift Cumberland's lead to 3-1. Ferreira delivered the clincher for CU at No. 2 with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Barnes.

Hrzic held a lead at No. 3 at the time of the clinch and Elisey Kalashnikov was a point away from getting the clincher himself at No. 6.

With this win under their belt, Cumberland now sets its sights on the next challenge: a semifinal showdown against No. 17 Lindsey Wilson with a spot in the conference championship on the line.
