Women's Soccer Slips to No. 16 in Final NAIA Coaches’ Poll Before National Tournament

LEBANON, Tenn.--Cumberland women's soccer slips two spots to No. 16 in the final NAIA Women's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll of the season, released Wednesday morning by the national office.

The poll marks the final ranking before the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship Selection Show, set for Friday, Nov. 14, at 6 p.m. CT. The Phoenix are one of four Mid-South Conference programs featured in the rankings, joining No. 9 Cumberlands (Ky.), No. 19 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.), and Campbellsville (Ky.), who is now receiving votes.

Campbellsville went on a run to claim the Mid-South Conference Tournament Championship defeating Bethel in the quarterfinals, Cumberland 3-1 in the semifinals, and then won the conference title with a golden goal over the Cumberlands. The win gives the Tigers the Mid-South Conference automatic berth to the NAIA National Championship field.

Cumberland sits 11-4-1 overall and 5-0-1 in Mid-South Conference play, finishing the regular season undefeated in league action before advancing to the MSC semifinals match.

Offensively, the Phoenix have been one of the most potent attacks in the nation, ranking 22nd nationally in total goals (65) and 19th in shots per game (20.9). Cumberland's balanced offense has produced 54 assists, ranking 14th in the NAIA, while posting a .183 shot percentage. Defensively, the Phoenix have recorded seven shutouts this season and hold opponents to just 1.19 goals per game.

Cumberland will learn its postseason destination on Friday evening as the NAIA reveals the 40-team national tournament field and host sites for the Opening Round, scheduled for Nov. 20-22.
