Women’s Soccer Face Truett McConnell in National Championship Second Round

CLEVELAND, Ga. - - Tomorrow, the Cumberland women's soccer team will head south to Cleveland, Georgia to take on the No.10-seed Truett McConnell Lady Bears in the second round of the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship.

Cumberland will come into the Championship off the backs of one of their lone losses of the season, falling to a Campbellsville team in the MSC Tournament that managed to take the crown as the No. 4 seed. Despite that loss, the Phoenix's regular season performance garnered them enough respect to still be picked for an at-large bid, which pitted them against AAC runner-up Truett-McConnell.

The Phoenix were a dominant force in the Mid-South Conference and country as a whole, having eight players named to All Conference teams. Seika Stull was named to the first team as she won Conference Player of the Year, while both Klara Bjorkman and Olga Wallemo picked up Defensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year honors, respectively.

There was no shortage of players in the First-Team still, seeing both Celia Martin and Kadisha Martina grab their own spot. On the Second-Team was Ida Kjallgren, Aoi Kanno, and Victoria Collins, while Head Coach Scott Davidson and his assistant, Ally Morrell, both rounded out honors with Coach and Assistant Coach of the Year titles.

Cumberland continued their relentless attack this season with three players touching double-digit goals, Collins (11), Martina (10), and Wallemo (10), as both Martina (10) and Stull (16) eclipsed double figure assists. In goal for the Phoenix all season was First-Team selection and two-time MSC Defensive Player of the Week, Celia Martin, saving what has perhaps been her best season for CU for her senior campaign.

Going 12-4-1 over the season, Cumberland took a share of the regular season title as they went undefeated in conference play (5-0-1) and dropped points just one time, tying with eventual Co-Champions, Lindsey Wilson. The Lebanon side picked up notable wins over National Championship teams Oakland City, University of the Cumberlands, and Campbellsville, all on the way to face off with the Lady Bears.

In four all-time matchups with Truett, the Phoenix hold a perfect 4-0-0 record, most recently dominating the Lady Bears in Lebanon to the tune of a 7-1 drumming in a top-15 ranked matchup.

Looking at the opposite side of the coin, TMU made the tournament for the eighth consecutive season, as the Lady Bears earned an at-large berth to the 2025 NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship and, for the first time in program history, will serve as an Opening Round host site. The Lady Bears (18-1-1) earned their at-large bid following a dominant regular season and a runner-up finish in the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament.

Like the Phoenix, Truett took home a large number of All Conference awards, as well as individual titles. Annabel Trauschke was named the Player of the Year, the Offensive Player of the Year, and the Golden Boot winner, while teammates Marisol Esparza and Erin Ward are the Co-Defensive Players of the Year. Celiane Pereira was also named the Newcomer of the Year, while Lady Bears Head Coach David McDowell was named Coach of the Year.

Isabella Hodson, Annabel Trauschke, Celiane Pereira, Evangelina Seidel, Marisol Esparza, Erin Ward, Danica Wittmann were all named to the AAC First-Team.

Annabel Trauschke was a force for Truett, scoring 18 goals in 19 games, also chipping in 10 assists along the way. Her teammate Isabella Hodson was just shy of both of her totals this season, scoring 14 and assisting 8. Where Truett really shines though is in defense, as the Lady Bears recorded nine shutouts in conference play and conceded just eight goals all season, helping Danica Wittman record a 0.55 goals against average.

Saturday's match will be streamed live on BearsTV through Team1 Sports. A stream link will be available on tmubears.com. Tickets for the Second-Round match will go on sale Monday through TMU's official ticketing platform.
