Phoenix Can't Find Way Past No. 14 OLLU in Grizzly Invitational

Box Score LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - - The Cumberland Men's Tennis Team faced off against Our Lady of the Lake University in their final match of the Grizzly Invitational, falling 4-1.

Doubles put Cumberland behind from the start, dropping the number one spot for the first time this weekend. After being broken in their second service game the Phoenix had to try to find a way to break the Saints serve, though they were unable to, seeing Vitor Ferreira and Julian Parada fall 6-3.

Giving the Phoenix a chance to take the doubles point, Daniel Wessels and Paul-Daniel Meyer took the win on court three, all thanks to an early service break, winning 6-4. The doubles point was decided on court two, where Gabriel Godoy and Elisey Kalashnikov were unable to find a win, dropping the set 6-4.

Our Lady of the Lake kept their momentum in singles action, taking another point in just under an hour. Elisey Kalashnikov fell in doubles action and was unable to find his footing in singles either, falling 6-3, 6-3.

Giving the Saints their third point in the race to four, Daniel Wessels couldn't upend OLLU's number one. The South African struggled to find his way into the first set, falling 6-1, and though his effort was valiant in the second, he still fell 6-4.

Getting Cumberland's sole point in the loss, Gabriel Godoy held down the number four spot. After losing in his first match of the season, the freshman has seemed to grow in confidence and added another win to his resume, 6-4, 6-2.

Just three minutes after Godoy's win the Saints found their match clinching third singles win, taking the number two spot. Paul-Daniel Meyer had been strong over the weekend but couldn't find the momentum to stop the wave coming over the Phoenix, falling 6-3, 6-2.

Courts three and six were unable to find a finish with the match being played to a clinch, as both Julian Parada and Arne Sohmer were in their second sets.
