Kuriya Named MSC Baseball Player of the Week After Red-Hot Weekend

LEBANON, Tenn.--Toshi Kuriya is named the Mid-South Conference Player of the Week after starting off the season strong this past weekend. 

Kuriya was red-hot in three starts for the Phoenix against IU Kokomo. He went 5-for-8 bopping two home runs, two doubles and driving in eight runs. In game one, Kuriya went 2-for-3 with a homer and a double with two RBIs. In game three of the series, Kuriya blasted his second home run of the series in a 3-for-3 outing with four RBIs. Kuriya was 0-for-2 in the final game of the series, but still drove in two runs on a sac fly and an RBI fielder's choice. 

Kuriya's .625 average through three games lands puts him tied for the 23rd best batting average in the early start to the season. His two home runs has him tied for 15th and eight RBIs lands him tied for 34th in the NAIA. Kuriya posted a 1.625 slugging percentage for the third-best slugging percentage. 

This is Kuriya's first Mid-South Conference Player of the Week award of his career. 

The Phoenix will host Northwestern Ohio at Woody Hunt Stadium this upcoming weekend.
