Zugasti Steals Lone Point for Cumberland in Loss to Austin Peay

Box Score CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - - The Cumberland Women's Tennis Team faced off against NCAA DI opponent Austin Peay on this sunny Tuesday afternoon.

Doubles action was all Governors, taking the top doubles spot away from Valentina Mendez and Elina Sungatullina, 6-0. Securing the point, Austin Peay won at two doubles by a score of 6-3, taking down Kaede Hatano and Lara Zugasti.

Aysa Tilsim Timur and Madeleine Darud played at the third doubles and lost 6-1.

Lara Zugasti was the lone winner in singles action as she handled the six seed in straight sets, winning 6-3, 6-1.

Austin Peay won every other spot in the lineup, taking the match by a score of 5-2. Elina Sungatullina dropped the top spot by a score of 6-3, 6-0.

Ame Van Eijk matched her same effort in total number of games won, though she fell 6-2, 6-1. Next in the lineup Kaede Hatano dropped her match at three singles, 6-0, 6-0.

Four and five both saw more competitive matches despite their losing efforts, as Juanita Mendez and Aysa Tilsim Timur were both able to take four games in a set from the Governors.

Mendez started her match slow, losing the first set 6-0, but rallied hard to pull back her four games in the second set, falling 6-4. Tilsim Timur was one game better but also dropped her match at the five spot, 6-1, 6-4.

Cumberland will have a quick turnaround as they take on Campbellsville tomorrow afternoon in their first conference match of the season, staying on the road like they have much of the year.
