Men's Tennis Finish Weekend Series in Georgia with Win Over ABAC

Box Score TIFTON, Ga. - - The Cumberland Men's Tennis team wrapped up their weekend stretch of matches with a 5-2 win over Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College earlier this afternoon.

Starting off doubles, Vitor Ferreira and Julian Parada partnered back up after Ferreira didn't play in doubles action yesterday and the pairing won in a tight match, 7-5. Securing the point however was the South Africans, Paul-Daniel Meyer and Janiel Wessels, winning on court three with a confident 6-2 scoreline.

Elisey Kalashnikov and Gabriel Godoy won their match at the two spots as well, taking the win 6-4.

Singles action flew by quickly with the match being done and over within an hour and a half, as the Phoenix won the match with three singles wins in under 60 minutes. The first match to end was Paul-Daniel Meyer with a pair of sweeps, 6-0, 6-0, at the number two seed.

Just after him his doubles partner took the poll position by a score of 6-1, 6-1, leaving just one more court to be won to clinch the match. Doing that, Arne Sohmer stepped back into the lineup and took his win in 53 minutes, 6-2, 6-1.

With the match already won the final courts were playing for pride and the Stallions took two of the three. Securing Cumberland's last win, Gabriel Godoy was the last match to finish as the Brazilian won a third set tiebreaker, ending 4-6, 6-2, 10-4.

Julian Parada finally fell this weekend after taking part in some match clinch battles, dropping the third court 6-3, 6-2. Hassan Ammar also lost at the fifth spot, dropping a three set duel, 3-6, 6-2, 3-10.

Cumberland will take on Southeastern on Tuesday at noon.
