Men's Tennis Cage Coyotes on Senior Day

LEBANON, Tenn. - - The Cumberland Men's Tennis team hosted Coastal Alabama Community College early this morning for their Senior Day festivities and took down the Coyotes, 5-2.

Coastal struck early in doubles action as they took down Vaibhav Bisht and Fernando Flores at three doubles, 6-1, but Cumberland bounced back within ten minutes to take the point. Elisey Kalashnikov and Julian Parada were the first to win for CU, taking the point at one doubles by a score of 6-2.

Winning the doubles point though was Daniel Wessels and Paul-Daniel Meyer on the second court. After going down 3-1, the pair responded by winning five of the next six sets, getting a 6-4 win in the process.

The Phoenix swept the first four courts in singles play, winning in straight sets on the first three. Daniel Wessels manned the ship at number one and took a 6-3, 6-3 victory as a Senior Day gift. Next up, Hassan Ammar played the highest he has so far this season and did well, winning 7-6 (7-4), 6-1.

Wessels fellow seniors Julian Parada and Elisey Kalashnikov took victories home with them as well, first seeing Parada only drop two games in his straight sets win, 6-2, 6-0. Elisey Kalashnikov had more work to do as he dropped his first set 3-6, but rallied to win the next two 6-3, 10-6.

Vaibhav Bisht and Fernando Flores both dropped their matches at five and six respectively, though they went a full three sets. Flores' match was finished before the match was clinched for the Phoenix, meaning he played a full three sets.

Dropping his first set 1-6, Flores hit back with a 6-3 victory of his own in the second set, but fell in his third, 2-6. Bisht also went three, but fell in a third set match tiebreak. The Indian dropped his first set 4-6 and like Flores he responded quickly with a second set victory, 6-2, but drop his tiebreak 6-10.

Cumberland will play again tomorrow as CU travels to Georgetown for conference action.
