Men's Tennis Keep Rolling with 6-1 Win Over Georgetown

Box Score GEORGETOWN, Ky. - - The Cumberland Men's Tennis Team hit the road to play their second match in as many days and managed to bring a win home, 6-1.

Having been dominant in singles for much of this season, the Phoenix found their rhythm early and took the doubles point in just over 20 minutes. Cumberland has been running two pairs of compatriots in the latter half of this season and it worked its magic today, as both Vitor Ferreira and Gabriel Godoy won on court two and Daniel Wessels and Paul-Daniel Meyer took the win at the third spot.

Doubles didn't come out completely unscathed however, as Elisey Kalashnikov and Julian Parada fell at the top spot in a set tiebreak, 7-6 (7-3).

Daniel Wessels continued his hot streak as the South African started a string of straight set victories, winning 6-3, 6-2, at the top singles spot. Vitor Ferreira backed him up one spot lower in the lineup and won 6-1, 6-4, giving the Phoenix a big 3-0 match lead.

Julian Parada's six singles match was the next dual to run it's course, again being a straight sets win for Cumberland. The Colombian's 6-3, 6-3 win took the match for the Phoenix at 4-0, though the next match to finish would go the way of the Tigers.

Paul-Daniel Meyer took his match in doubles but wasn't able to keep that run in singles, falling in straight sets 6-1, 6-3. Hassan Ammar was the only match of the day to go three sets, dropping his first set at the five spots, but the Egyptian rallied to win 6-1 in the second and 10-4 in the set tiebreak.

The final match of the day to finish was Gabriel Godoy, who won on court four, 7-5, 6-3.

The Phoenix will play their third match in three days tomorrow as their match with Lindsey Wilson was moved up from Saturday.
