Phoenix Volleyball Programs Earn 2025 AVCA Team Academic Award

LEBANON, Tenn.--Cumberland University's men's and women's volleyball programs have been honored with the 2025 AVCA Team Academic Award, as announced by the American Volleyball Coaches Association this week.

This marks the first-ever Team Academic Award for Cumberland Men's Volleyball, while the Women's Volleyball team earns the recognition for the eighth time overall and seventh straight season. The award honors programs that maintain a year-long team GPA of 3.3 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

A record-setting 1,450 programs across all levels of volleyball received the award this year, highlighting a growing commitment to academic excellence within the sport. Cumberland is one of just a handful of NAIA institutions to have both its men's and women's programs recognized.

In the Mid-South Conference, Cumberland Women's Volleyball is joined by Bethel University and the University of the Cumberlands among this year's honorees. On the men's side, Cumberland was one of only six NAIA programs nationwide to earn the distinction.

The Phoenix Women's Volleyball team posted an impressive 3.601 cumulative GPA, while the Men's team followed closely behind with a 3.523 GPA for the academic year.

This award further showcases the comprehensive excellence of Cumberland Athletics, as both programs continue to succeed on the court and in the classroom.

The AVCA Team Academic Award, sponsored by INTENT, has been presented annually since 1993.
