Three Straight Wins Propels Phoenix to No. 13 in NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll

LEBANON, Tenn. - - After a strong two weeks of action, the Cumberland men's soccer team has leaped five spots to No. 13 in this week's NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll, as was announced by the league office this morning.

All four games reflected in this ranking were played at home for the Phoenix as they went 3-1 in over that span of games. Opening up their home stand, Cumberland battled it out to a 5-5 draw with the UT Southern Firehawks, helping show the Phoenix's high-powered attack.

Cumberland then followed that game up with three straight wins, first over Bryan College in a 5-0 shutout. The Phoenix then followed that win up with a 2-1 victory over Oakland City and finally, yesterday morning, capped off their run of wins with a 5-1 thrashing of St. Thomas University.

The Phoenix have proven to have one of the best attacks in all of the NAIA, scoring 31 goals and adding in 33 assists. Those totals add up to 95 points, nearly 20 more than the next closest competitor for the Lebanon, Tennessee side.

This weekend will prove the biggest test of the season for Cumberland who take on conference foes and current No. 4 ranked University of the Cumberlands Patriots.

Dalton State continues their reign as the No. 1 team in the country as the Roadrunners have been on an impressive 30-game win streak. MidAmerica Nazarene and Lindsey Wilson round out the top three.

Lindsey and the Cumberlands are ranked side-by-side in the top five, while Cumberland is the next closest ranked MSC team at No. 13. Bethel (Tenn.) is also receiving votes.
