Four Top-20 Individual Performances Propel Phoenix into Top-Three in Georgia

MARIETTA, Ga. -- Cumberland Women's Bowling finishes in second place with a score of 4,694 on the first day of the Bowlero Southern Collegiate Classic.

On this first day, each team will bowl five American/traditional games as they get ready to set the field for the knockout rounds. There are four teams that will reach the knockout rounds, and this first day focuses on the traditional games.

In the first game, Cumberland was having a hard time adjusting to the lanes, and scored only 852 pins.

However, in game two, the Phoenix bounced back and scored their highest game of the season, with 1,103 pins in game two to move their total all the way back up to 1,955. Jennifer Chiarillo led all CU bowlers in game two with a team high 255 pins.

In game three, Cumberland continued their inconsistent day and fell back under the quadruple digit threshold, only scoring 868 pins to bring their three game total to 2,823.

After game four, CU found some stability, scoring 959 pins and setting their total before the final game at 3,782 pins. Serenity Freeman and Kaylie Gibson matched scores of 215 in game four to lead Cumberland.

In that final game, the Phoenix scored 912 pins to set their first day score at 4,694. The Phoenix finished in second place, trailing only Pikeville, who had a score of 4,963. The other two teams that are above the cut line are SCAD-Savannah, who is sitting with 4,692 pins, and Milligan, who has 4,679 pins. Sitting just below the cut line is Tennessee Wesleyan, with a pin total of 4,520.

Individually for Cumberland, Chiarillo led all bowlers, scoring 992 pins, for a five game average of 198.4. The Junior finished in the All-Tournament team in joint fifth place, which means the Phoenix have had three straight All-Tournament team finishers to open the season.

Freeman scored 976 pins in five games, which led to an average of 195.2 and finished in seventh place, with Gibson scoring 942 pins, for an average of 188.4, which was good for 12th. Kathleen Schraer was the final Phoenix bowler to play all five games, and Schraer scored 900 pins, for an average of 180 and finished in 19th. Abby Jay Jardines played four games, and had an average score of 181.75. Finally, Olivia Vanhooser played the first game, and had a score of 157.

The Phoenix will get ready for the second day of the Bowlero Southern Collegiate Classic tomorrow with 16 baker games to set the field before match play.
