Women’s Bowling Bows Out of ITC

GREEN BAY, Wisc. – Phoenix got two series wins on day two, but fell in the semifinals of the consolation bracket.

In the first round of day two of the Intercollegiate Team Championship, the Phoenix faced off against No. 15 seed Trine University Thunder in a best-of-seven series.

In the first game of the series, Cumberland used a strong run and took game one 222-182. In game two, Trine evened the series back up with a 226-179 win. Moving to game three, the Thunder got their second straight win and put the Phoenix in a 2-1 series deficit, with the score of the third game being 190-163.

Game four now becomes pivotal for the Phoenix as they want to avoid a 3-1 series deficit in the elimination round. Now, in that game four, Trine came back and forced the 3-1 lead with a 182-161 win. 

With Cumberland down 3-1, every game is an elimination game. Cumberland controlled most of game five, and was able to survive a late push by Trine to extend the series with a 183-177 game five win. Moving to game six, the Phoenix were able to have the lead for most of the game and force a game seven with a 173-150 win.

Both Cumberland and Trine are in their second game seven of the ITC, and in this win or go home game seven, Cumberland was down eight pins heading into the final frame, and in that final frame, the Phoenix get a turkey while the Thunder leaves a split, which gives Cumberland the game seven win with a score of 162-149, and the Phoenix move onto the next round.

In that next round, the Phoenix faced off against the No. 11 seed Tulane Green Wave.

Heading to the second round of the consolation rounds, the Green Wave takes the first game of the series with a score of 177-168. In game two, Cumberland starts slow, but finds their footing and evens the series with a 183-181 win. 

In a high-scoring game three, the Phoenix got five strikes in a row and won 230-189, and took a 2-1 series lead. Cumberland kept the momentum going and took game four with a score of 202-185. 

In game five, Cumberland starts strong, and they weather the Green Wave's storm to win game five 234-176 and move on to the semifinals of the consolation bracket.

In this third round, Cumberland faces off against the No. 2 seed Louisiana Tech Bulldogs. 

To open up the series, Louisiana Tech wins the first game by a score of 208-189. Moving to game two, Cumberland ties the series up with a 194-135 win. 

In game three, the Bulldogs win by a score of 161-138 and get the 2-1 series lead. Then, Cumberland uses a four-strike run to steal game four by a score of 203-201 and even the series.

Game five is a low-scoring affair, and in that game, Cumberland got their first series lead with a 165-142 win. In game six, the Bulldogs forced a winner-take-all game seven with a 211-167 win.

In the win-or-go-home game seven, Louisiana Tech started strong and was able to win 225-203 and knock out the Phoenix from the Intercollegiate Team Championship. 

Cumberland Women's Bowling's season comes to a close, and it had a lot of firsts for the program, but now they look ahead to the 2026-27 season.
