Conger Earns First Team Honors; Nwoye Named Freshman of the Year, Second Team All-MSC

LEBANON, Tenn.--The Mid-South Conference announced its 2025-26 Men's Basketball postseason awards on Friday, with Cumberland's Triston Conger earning First Team All-Conference honors and Michael Nwoye being named both Second Team All-Conference and the Mid-South Conference Freshman of the Year.

Nwoye becomes the second-straight Phoenix to claim Freshman of the Year honors, joining Khi Wallace, who earned the award last season. The recognition marks back-to-back years Cumberland has produced the league's top freshman.

Conger was one of 10 players selected to the All-MSC First Team after putting together one of the most complete seasons in the conference. The junior point guard finished third in the MSC in scoring at 17.6 points per game while ranking second in assists. He started all 27 games, averaging 36.1 minutes per contest, and shot 47.2 percent from the floor and 79.1 percent from the free throw line. Conger totaled 476 points, 100 assists, 151 rebounds, and 51 steals, serving as the catalyst for Cumberland's offense throughout the season.

Nwoye led the five-man All-MSC Second Team after a dominant freshman campaign. The forward averaged 12.4 points per game while leading the Mid-South Conference in rebounding at 8.3 boards per contest. He also paced the league in blocks and averaged 1.5 steals per game, making him one of the most impactful two-way players in the conference. Nwoye shot an efficient 54.8 percent from the field across 27 starts, finishing the regular season with 225 total rebounds, 40 blocks, and 41 steals.

Lindsey Wilson's (Ky.) Kenyata Carbon is the MSC Men's Basketball Player of the Year, Freed-Hardeman's (Tenn.) Rico Sain is the Randy Vernon Defensive Player of the Year.

The Freed-Hardeman coaching staff swept the conference coach of the year awards. Drew Stutts was voted by his peers as the MSC Head Coach of the Year, while Grant Burns was picked as the MSC Assistant Coach of the Year.

The awards were voted on by Mid-South Conference head coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own players.

With two All-Conference selections and back-to-back Freshman of the Year honors, Cumberland will look to make a run in the Mid-South Conference Tournament set to begin tomorrow against 3-seed Cumberlands.
