Box Score CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. --The Cumberland men's tennis team dropped a weekend non-conference match against Division 1 opponent Austin Peay State 5-2 on Saturday.
The Governors jumped on the Phoenix and took two out of three doubles matches, winning on courts one and two, while the match on court three was stopped in the first set as the Governors had already clinched the point.
Carlos Morillas and
Magnus Johansen lost their doubles point on No. 1, 6-1. The pairing of
Matheus Guarnieri and
Mohamed Bouhlel dropped their doubles match on court two, 6-3. Despite the early loss of the doubles point,
Arne Sohmer and
Arthur Fernandes were tied at 6-6 match on court three that was stopped.
In singles play, the Phoenix dropped the first four matches, but would finish strong with victories from Arne Sohmer and
Mateus Mori.
Arne Sohmer won in three sets, 6-0, 3-6, and the third set, match tiebreaker ended in a 10-7 score.
Mateus Mori won in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
Carlos Morillas lost the first singles match in straight sets 6-2, 6-0.
Arthur Fernandes couldn't find his footing at the second spot, falling 6-3, 7-5.
Mohamed Bouhlel also fought hard but could not get past the Governors, dropping 7-6, 6-3. No. 4 singles played by
Matheus Guarnieri was also lost in straight sets with scores of 6-1, 6-3.
Cumberland will be back at home against conference foe Freed-Hardeman on March 26th.
