Box Score CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - - Cumberland women's tennis fell 7-0 to Division 1 opponent Austin Peay on Saturday afternoon in Clarksville, struggling to gain the edge over the Governors in any matchup throughout the day.
The Phoenix began the match by losing the doubles point early, falling on courts one and two. Maria Arbelaez and
Elina Sungatullina were defeated 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, while
Ana Melo Bulcao Souza and
Ame Van Eijk dropped a 6-1 decision on court two. Following the loss of the doubles point, the No. 3 doubles match featuring
Asya Tilsim Timur and
Madeleine Darud was left unfinished at 4-3.
Austin Peay brought their momentum into the singles competition to secure the team victory. Asya Tilsim Timur fell 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while
Elina Sungatullina was defeated 6-2 in straight sets on court two.
Maria Arbelaez dropped a 6-4, 6-1 decision at No. 3, and
Madeleine Darud fell 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4.
Ame Van Eijk also lost her singles match in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 in match No. 5. Finally, in No. 6 singles
Ana Melo Bulcao Souza lost in straight sets, first set tiebreaker 8-6 and 6-4.
The Phoenix look to bounce back when they play host to conference foe Freed-Hardeman March 26th.
