Flag Football Would Split in Double Header With A Weather Delayed Second Game

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LEBANON, Tenn. -- Cumberland would get their first home win in program history, but lose the second game after a long delay.

Cumberland started the first game off strong with a Madison Woodard touchdown pass to Gabriel Orsi on the first drive of the game. After a quick drive by the Tornado, Marley Hyde would get her first touchdown of the day on a third down pass by Woodard.

The second quarter would be a defensive quarter, with both offenses struggling throwing multiple interceptions. Ava Hourigan would get the two interceptions for the Phoenix as the freshman would put Cumberland in good positions to score, but the offense got shut down in the red zone.

The score at halftime was 13-0 in favor of Cumberland, and heading into the second half, King would find their first touchdown of the game on the first drive, cutting the lead to a one score game. After a punt from both teams, Woodard would find Hyde for her second touchdown of the game with ten seconds left in the third quarter.

Entering the fourth quarter, ShaNaiya Robinson gets an interception on third down and Hyde gets her hat trick on a rushing touchdown. On the next Tornado drive, Jada Starnes would get the fourth Cumberland interception of the game and the second in the second half. After a stop on fourth down, King would drive to the redzone and get in the endzone to cut the lead to 14.

After that touchdown, Cumberland would get a couple of first downs and run the clock to get their first ever win at Nokes-Lasater field, with a score of 26-12.

Starting the second game, Cumberland looked to start off the game better than when they started last time they faced Huntingdon College, however, the Phoenix went three and out in the first drive. Then the Phoenix defense forces a turnover on downs in the red zone to keep the Hawks off of the board. After another punt by the Phoenix and a fourth down stop, the first quarter ended with a score of 0-0.

Before the second quarter started, the storm hit Nokes-Lasater field and forced a weather delay that would last for about 90 minutes.

After the weather delay, the defense would be forced onto the field, and forced a fourth down stop to give Cumberland the ball around midfield. The Huntingdon secondary was giving the Phoenix offense a lot of trouble, as Cumberland would have to punt again.

The Phoenix defense would hold the score at 0-0 heading into halftime.

After half, Huntingdon would stay on offense and break open the scoring on a deep pass. On the ensuing offensive drive by Cumberland, Je'Leah Cole would be able to find some daylight and give the offense some momentum, but the Phoenix would get stopped on fourth down.

Starting the fourth quarter, the score would remain 7-0 with the Phoenix having the ball in the red zone, and they would punch it in with a touchdown reception by Jessica Young to cut the lead to one. On the next possession, the Phoenix would get the punt block by Nyaruach Goach, but would get stopped on fourth down and that would end the game. With Huntingdon winning 7-6.

Cumberland moves to 2-3 and will face Campbellsville at Nokes-Lasater Field on March 11th at 5:00 PM.
