Flag Football Falls to Campbellsville In Rematch

Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- The Phoenix would fall behind early in this matchup and Campbellsville's offense would take over in the second half to seal the game.

This match is the second in the series between Cumberland and Campbellsville, after the Phoenix won game one 25-0 at Nokes Lasater Field for Cumberland's first shutout win in program history.

In this matchup, the Phoenix fell behind quickly as the Tigers would score on their first drive, then force a turnover on the ensuing drive and score quickly to get 14 points in the first quarter.

Late in the second quarter, Cumberland reached the endzone on a pass from Madison Woodard to CallieAnna Griggs to cut the lead in half. Then Campbellsville scored quickly after to regain the two score lead. 

With just two and a half minutes left in the half, Woodard found Marley Hyde for an 18 yard touchdown to cut the lead to six heading into halftime, with the score being 20-14 in favor of Campbellsville.

After halftime, both defenses started strong, forcing punts on the first drives for both teams. Then the Tigers found two touchdowns in the third quarter on their next two drives to extend their lead to 18 points. 

Cumberland got a quick score to get the lead back to 12, but Campbellsville scored right back to make the final score 38-20.

On offense for the Phoenix, Woodard completed 30 of her 46 passes for 286 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. Hyde had another 100 yard receiving day, posting 157 receiving yards on 11 receptions, and that 18 yard touchdown. Griggs scored a pair of touchdowns, to go along with 62 yards receiving.

Defensively, Kiah Seay led the way with four pulls. ShaNaiya Robinson pulled three flags and deflected one pass. Ava Hourigan and Brianna Taylor also got three pulls, with Hourigan having one TFL.

The Phoenix will move to 7-11 with their next games being their final games at Nokes-Lasater Field in a tri-match with Mars Hill University and Hendrix University on Saturday April 4th, with the first game starting at 1:00 PM.
