Men's Volleyball Fall in the RSC Tournament Semi-Final

Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - - Men's Volleyball battled hard but ultimately fell short in five sets to Campbellsville in the River States Conference semi-final on Friday evening. 

Joao Infante made an incredible 32 kills, the most across both teams on the day, on a .328 hitting percentage. While Zendai Richards and Frederick Amegbletor chipped in with 14 and 11 respectively. Austin Kuehler had a busy game with a double double of 10 digs and 55 assists. Francesco Corradini ended the game with seven kills and five blocks. Alexander Heuer had helped his team out with 23 digs and eight assists. The Phoenix finished with a .274 hitting percentage. 

The home side got off to a quick start taking the 3-7 lead, with all points coming from kills. The Tigers held onto their lead at 13-16, with the Phoenix battling to stay within striking distance. The Phoenix went on a four point run with kills from Heuer and Corradini to turn the tide and take the 20-19 lead for the first time in the set before Campbellsville took a timeout to take the sting out of the Phoenix attack. The timeout paid dividends as the Tigers came back from behind to narrowly take the 24-26 win.

The team were evenly matched in the opening encounters of the second set with nothing separating them at 12-12. Infante gave the Phoenix three points with two kills and a block to make it 15-12. Richards and Amegbletor chipped in with a few kills before Pedro Zavatini answered with a kill for the Tigers as the Phoenix still held a 21-17 lead. A 4-1 run that finished with back to back Infante kills secured the second set for the Phoenix.

Campbellsville bounced back in the early stages of the third set to take a 5-10 lead. Cumberland picked up some points with Mason Bryan and Corradini making some big blocks at the net to cut the deficit to 13-15. A 1-4 run from the Tigers ensured they kept their noses in front at 14-19 before the Phoenix took a timeout. With the wind in their sails, Campbellsville managed to take the third set and gain the advantage in the match. 

Cumberland responded in the early stages of the fourth set with Corradini picking up a few blocks as well as a service ace, before Infante chipped in with back to back kills. Campbellsville managed to wriggle their way back into the set at 11-10. Kuehler got a kill for the Phoenix before setting up Infante for the kill as the Phoenix took the 14-10 lead. 

Campbellsville went on a four point run to take the lead for the first time in the set at 14-15 and forced a Phoenix timeout. Cumberland regrouped at the timeout and came out composed with Infante making two big kills paired with a Tiger attack error before it was the home side's turn to take the timeout at 22-19. Cumberland kept their composure and with back to back kills from Richards took the set 25-22. 

The Phoenix picked up three points early to put pressure on the Tigers. Campbellsville answered with a couple kills to keep it the final set in the balance. The Tigers leveled the set at 6-6 as the Phoenix took a timeout. Infante and Amegbletor made a huge block which gave the Phoenix a two point lead before a Tiger attack error made the set 11-9 in favor of Cumberland. Both teams battled and Cumberland found themselves 14-12 up before Campbellsville hit three points to take the 14-15 lead. A Christou Savvas kill was enough to take the set for the Tigers as the Phoenix fell in the River States Conference Tournament semi-final.
