Infante Named to AVCA All-American Second Team

LEBANON, Tenn. - - Adding to his pile of hardware from this season, Joao Infante was named to the AVCA All-American Second Team, as was announced by the organization this afternoon.

Last week Infante was named the first ever River States Conference Player of the Year, just one season after being named the Attacker of the Year in the conference. The Portuguese outside broke his own school record of 467 kills from this past season with an eye watering 489 kills, second-high in the country with an average of 4.53 per set.

All of that is being done while he is landing his shots at an incredible .326 average, leading the Phoenix by over two hundred kills. Highlighting his ability on all fronts, Infante carries his own weight defensively, totaling more than 60 blocks, currently sitting inside the top 75 in the country for the stat total. His 130 digs also sees him inside the top 100 nationally.

Combining his laundry list of honors, Infante has truly stockpiled accomplishments in his two years at an unprecedented rate; looking at River States Conference Players of the Week, National Players of the Week, and All-Conference Honors, Infante has now totaled 15 major awards throughout his time with the Phoenix alone.

This year's All-Americans represent 13 programs, and leading the way are Campbellsville University, Mount Mercy University, Park University, St. Xavier University,  and The Master's University with three apiece. An additional 15 players received AVCA honorable mention honors.

There are three schools who have their first-ever AVCA All-Americans: Bethel University, Cumberland University, and Westcliff University. All three of the first-timers are second-team selections: Thomas Dunkley of Bethel, Joao Infante of Cumberland, and Tiago Silva of Westcliff.

The 2026 Freshman of the Year is Murillo Silva of Park University. The outside hitter hits .315, averages 3.14 kills per set and 3.98 points per set and leads the Pirates in aces with 41 heading into this week's NAIA Championship.

The selections were made by the AVCA NAIA Men's Volleyball All-America Committee: Luke Bentley of William Penn (chair), Alfonso Alvarez of Campbellsville, Steven Brasher of Simpson, Jared Goldberg of The Master's, Chad Hanson of Dordt, Greg Reitz of Lourdes, Tom Ryan of St. Xavier, and C.J. Shearer of Life University.
