Cumberland Looks to Build Momentum in Home Series vs. Georgetown

LEBANON, Tenn. - -Cumberland baseball returns to Ernest L. Stockton Field at Woody Hunt Stadium this weekend for a Mid-South Conference series against Georgetown College.

The Phoenix will open the series Friday with a single game at 2:00 p.m. CT before wrapping up the weekend with a doubleheader Saturday scheduled for 11:00 a.m. CT and 2:00 p.m. CT.

Cumberland Baseball in conjunction with the Wilson County Veterans Services Office is hosting a Military Appreciation Day during the Mid South Conference doubleheader vs. Georgetown on Saturday, April 4, 2026 beginning at 11:00 am at Woody Hunt Stadium. All US military veterans and active duty personnel are invited to attend free of charge and enjoy a free hot dog meal. The first 150 vets/AD personnel will receive a free CU camouflage baseball cap. 

Cumberland enters the weekend with a 14-20 overall record and a 1-5 mark in conference play. The Phoenix are coming off a midweek run-rule victory over Reinhardt University and will look to carry that momentum into an important conference matchup with the Tigers.

Offensively, the Phoenix lineup continues to produce behind several key contributors. Senior first baseman Wilser Then is hitting .375 on the season with six doubles, two triples, five home runs, and 27 RBIs. Dylan LaRue is coming off a standout performance Tuesday that included eight RBIs and a grand slam. LaRue is batting .372 and leads the team in hits (51), doubles (12), triples (5), RBIs (37), and home runs (10). Gaines Haussin has also been a consistent presence in the lineup, posting a .358 average with 43 hits, nine doubles, five home runs, and 20 RBIs. Aiden McDonald adds another strong bat, hitting .354 with 40 hits, six doubles, four home runs, and 29 RBIs.

On the mound, Cumberland will rely on a trio of projected starters. Senior left-hander Logan Baskin leads the rotation with a 3.77 ERA, a 3-2 record, and 47 strikeouts over 43 innings while holding opponents to a .248 batting average. Junior Carter Whitefield carries a 3.37 ERA with 38 strikeouts across 34.2 innings pitched. Junior right-hander Mateo Santos has been effective as well, posting a 4.02 ERA with a 4-1 record over 40.1 innings.

Georgetown enters the series at 8-23 overall and 1-8 in conference play, currently riding an 11-game losing streak after dropping a midweek doubleheader to the University of Pikeville.

Offensively, the Tigers are led by Davis Johnson, who is batting .324 with 36 hits, five doubles, one triple, eight stolen bases, and 13 RBIs. Elijah Verge adds a .300 average with 33 hits, while Aiden Jbara is hitting .256 with 23 hits and seven RBIs.

On the mound, Georgetown is expected to turn to Chris Lenocker, who enters with a 7.30 ERA and a 1-5 record across 40.2 innings pitched. Alec Krogel has made seven starts with an 8.59 ERA, while Ashton Deskins has been a reliable option out of the bullpen, posting a 3.04 ERA with two saves in 12 appearances.

Historically, Cumberland has held the edge in the series, owning a 51-26 record in 77 all-time meetings. The Phoenix also swept the Tigers last season in Georgetown and hold a 7-3 advantage over the last 10 matchups.

Cumberland will look to continue building momentum as it hosts Georgetown for a key Mid-South Conference series this weekend.
