Women's Tennis Wrap Up Final NAIA Top 25 Poll at No. 21

LEBANON, Tenn. - - The Cumberland women's tennis team dropped two places to No. 21 in the final NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll, as was announced by the league office this afternoon.

In the two weeks since the previous poll, Cumberland has gone 1-2 with a win in the Mid-South Conference Tournament over Freed-Hardeman. Cumberland stumbled in a trimatch with Georgia Gwinnett and UT Southern, falling to the now No.23 ranked Grizzlies while their match with the Firehawks had to be canceled.

The Phoenix's other loss came to the No. 13 ranked Cumberlands Patriots in the Semifinals of the MSC Tournament.

The final poll saw no movement among the top seven teams, with Keiser (Fla.) continuing to lead the way at No. 1 with 300 points and 11 first-place votes. Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) picked up one first-place vote and remained at No. 2, followed by Tennessee Wesleyan, Southeastern (Fla.), William Carey (Miss.), Xavier (La.), and SCAD Savannah (Ga.), all holding steady in their respective positions.

Movement began just outside that group, where St. Thomas (Fla.) moved from No. 9 to No. 8. Louisiana Christian moved into a tie at No. 13 after previously sitting at No. 14, while Morningside (Iowa) continued its climb, rising from No. 17 to No. 16.

Coastal Georgia (Ga.) made one of the stronger moves of the week, jumping from No. 22 to No. 19, while Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) climbed one spot to No. 20, and Georgia Gwinnett rose from No. 25 to No. 23. Oakland City (Ind.) rounded out the poll as the lone new addition, entering at No. 25 after previously receiving votes.

The postseason poll will be released on Wednesday, May 20.
