Bett Takes Second and Freshman of the Year as the Phoenix Earn Third at MSC XC Championship

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - - The Cumberland Men's Cross Country team competed in the Mid-South Conference Cross Country Championship and grabbed third place honors.

Battling it out at the top was Kennedy Bett and Youssef Asslouj of the Cumberlands, making for a very even matchup till the very end. Finishing with a time of 24:09.0, Bett had to settle for second place as he was less than ten seconds behind Asslouj, though he earned himself First Team All-Conference and Freshman of the Year honors for his effort.

The only other Phoenix to be named to an All-Conference team was Joel Forbes, who ran a time of 25:52.6 which landed himself on the Second Team. Next was Edwin Kigen in 16th place, finishing in 26:19.3.

Elliot Hughes was just a tenth a second too slow to run a 27 minute 8k, landing him in 29th place. Just behind him were Matteo Abel and Ethan Garcia in 30th and 31st, running just ten seconds apart from each other with times of 27:04.4 and 27:14.0.

Rounding out the top 50 for the Phoenix was Smith Carter with a time of 28:22.7, good for 45th. One last pair of runners from Cumberland stuck together to end their race, as Walter Tanui and Max Berkey ran a 30:32.0 and 30:42.8, respectively.

Gaining regression every year he's with Cumberland, Head Coach Josh McMillan was named MSC Head Coach of the Year for both his Men's and Women's programs.

Cumberland will now await the NAIA Cross Country National Championships on November 22nd.
