Phoenix Men Capture Midway XC Invitational Crown

LEBANON, Tenn.--Cumberland men's cross country turned in a strong team effort on Friday, bringing home the championship at the Midway XC Invitational with 45 points to edge out Lindsey Wilson (62) and Midway (75).

The Phoenix placed three runners inside the top 10 with Ethan Garcia leading the charge with a fifth-place finish. Garcia clocked in with a 27:29.94, while Garrett Tunks followed in seventh at 27:41.56 and Matteo Abel in eighth at 27:57.59. Bela Brandl and Edwin Kigen rounded out the scoring with 14th (28:39.24) and 19th (29:08.57), respectively, to secure the victory.

Wesley Calderon finished in 37th with a time of 32:00.47 and Max Berkey came in 40th at 32:32.39.


Behind the Phoenix, Lindsey Wilson finished second with 62 points, Midway third with 75, Georgetown fourth with 76, Pikeville fifth with 91, and Brescia sixth with 152.


Cumberland will compete next in a couple of weeks at the "Live in Lou" Louisville XC Classic on Saturday, October 4.
