Phoenix Capture First Mid-South Conference Regular Season Championship

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--For the first time in program history, Cumberland University's women's bowling team captured the Mid-South Conference Regular Season Championship. 

The Phoenix finished fourth overall at the MSC Thomas Burris Memorial tournament on Sunday with a total score of 5,592 pins. Cumberland's team effort included a solid traditional game score of 4,024 and a Baker game total of 1,568. 

Lindenwood claimed the overall tournament title, finishing with a dominant score of 6,099 pins, thanks to a stellar traditional game total of 4,545 and consistent Baker game contributions. Milligan secured second place with a total of 5,829 pins, highlighted by the highest Baker game score of the tournament at 1,672. Governors State took third place with a total of 5,704 pins, maintaining steady performances in both traditional and Baker games. Cumberland earned fourth place with a well-balanced effort, narrowly edging out fifth-place Pikeville, who finished with 5,547 pins after a strong Baker game total of 1,587.

Cumberland University had a strong showing, led by Serenity Freeman, who placed 11th with 874 total pins and a 218.5 average. Kathleen Schraer followed in 14th place with 865 pins and a 216.25 average, while Kaylie Gibson finished 19th with 839 pins and a 209.75 average. Mary Grace Connelly contributed as well, placing 51st with 733 pins and a 183.25 average, and Alyssa Campbell finished with 550 pins over three games, averaging 183.33.

Lindenwood's Hailey Bozych finished first overall with 1,044 total pins across four games, averaging a remarkable 261 per game, including a perfect 300 game.

With the regular season title, Cumberland has earned the No. 1 seed heading into the Mid-South Conference Tournament Championship in February. 

The Phoenix are back on the lanes next weekend as they compete at the NAIA Invitational in Lawrenceville, Ga.
